Revelation

We have been taught that we are to receive revelation for ourselves. I was never taught to "take someone's word for it." While we are counseled to lean on other's testimonies until we have our own, it was never meant to ALWAYS rely on theirs forever. Our prophet has been talking about revelation and how important it will be in the latter days. It is a process. It doesn't always come naturally. I loved this quote because I feel it explains the process perfectly!

“One major lesson the First Vision does teach about revelation is that it is not the same thing as an instruction manual. Revelation is a process...Joseph Smith described his sacred experience differently, at different times, because his understanding of what happened increased over time. The more experience he had, and the more skill he acquired in receiving revelation, the more he understood what had happened that morning in the grove.” -Kate Holbrook, Managing Historian, Church History Dept
